We're excited to announce our partnership with Rickshaw Bagworks to make custom, HOT ITALIAN-branded bags and accessories. The Rickshaw name derives from three Japanese characters meaning “human powered vehicle” – delightfully apropos for a company making bags for bicycle enthusiasts, and a metaphor for the strength of the human spirit.

Rickshaw is a new San Francisco-based bag company inspired by the creative energy of the city, urban cycling and an intense desire to make great products. Rickshaw knows how people love their bags. They think it’s cool–if not kind of weird–the way people grow attached to their favorite bag as though it were a pet or loved–one.
HOT ITALIAN and Rickshaw both love city living–the excitement, diversity, creativity and culture we experience in a fast-paced metropolitan environment. With access to art, theater, music and restaurants, there’s an energy that pulses through the community. These bags are designed for people who thrive on the urban experience and celebrate the creative spirit.
Rickshaw may be a new company, but they have many years of experience designing and manufacturing great bags and providing unique customer experiences. In addition to our passion for bags, we share a strong set of humanistic, environmental and social values that guide the way we conduct every aspect of our business.

In March of 2011, HOT ITALIAN Midtown launched a pop-up shop for PUBLIC Bikes (PUBLICbikes.com) and Rickshaw Bagworks (rickshawbags.com). PUBLIC Bikes owner Rob Forbes, founder of modern furniture retailer Design Within Reach, and Mark Dwight, former CEO of Timbuk2 Bags and founder of Rickshaw Bagworks, both based in San Francisco, appeared at the launch event. PUBLIC Bikes currently has showrooms in non-bike shops such as The Gap (San Francisco), and Tretorn and J. Crew (New York). HOT ITALIAN is the first restaurant in the country with a PUBLIC pop-up shop.
That night, HOT ITALIAN was also awarded the “Bicycle Friendly Business” award (Bronze level) by the League of American Bicyclists in Washington D.C., becoming the first restaurant in California to achieve this standing.
